I want to be able to install the new firmware and become familiar with the use of the D100 EFIS PRIOR to installation to my panel. What is your opinion of a safe methodology to do this? I do have the battery installed. I thought I might be able to turn the display on with just the battery, but it does not turn on.  :-[

I appreciate your help.

Mine ran on just the battery... It's probably just flat ;) You can very easily make your own cable to supply power and data, which will allow you to run the efis on external power during the firmware upgrade (HIGHLY recommended!!!). It's just 5 wires - 2 for power and 3 for data. All the details you need are in the manual.

Exactly. Make a harness with power, ground, and the serial port. (you can just partially hook up the Dynon harness if you purchased it - just make sure all of the other lines are insulated from shorting out to anything).

Your internal battery is indeed probably just discharged.
