Flash drive failures and errors

Anyone else having issues with flash drives? I've read some older reports of flash drive issues. Running the Sandisk 32gb ultra fit flash drives, when I went to update the old drives I discovered one would not read (or be discovered) by the Dynon or my computer. The other showed and read by Dynon but when plugged into my laptop it displayed the message there was a problem detected with the drive. Upon scanning to attempt a repair, no problems were found. Have the latest Dynon hdx firmware.

If you search the forum, you'll find numerous threads discussing these issues. Sometimes it's a formatting thing or corrupt files, but usually it's just a problem with the system not liking some drives. So a search and figure out which one best matches what you're seeing.

I've had at least 2 flash drives get crapped out over the years to the point where they wouldn't mount properly when trying to update the data. Given that they only go between my computer and the SV, it's one of those two things or a bad drive. My money, FWIW, is on the Seattle Avionics POS tool for downloading their data, but that's just a guess based on my visceral hatred for their tool.

I'd just treat it as a consumable, get a new one, and move on. 32GB drives from Sandisk are pretty cheap nowadays.

Yeah, I've bought a couple more Sandisk ultra fit 32gb drives. I don't have Seattle Avionics so my issues weren't related to that.

Interestingly my drives were working fine until I exported user data files. Both of my drives worked until then. Upon inserting the one drive it was initially discovered by my laptop then disappeared from drive files never to be found again by any laptop we tried. The other drive was found by my laptop but showed the error on drive message.

Probably not the same issue, but I have tried a dozen different flash drives and not one of them is reliably recognised by SV, 90% of the time I need to pull it out of the slot and re-insert it.

That sounds like a USB port/wiring failure, unfortunately. They do wear out over time.

Do not buy flash drives from Amazon. One of the most counterfitted things sold. Amazon in general is full of counterfit garbage I refuse to use the platform altogether

But yeah. I've found the dynon ports to be a bit finicky to read.
