HDX Suite + Garmin GPS175: RNP or RNAV only?

Hi Guys,

So I'm running a full Dynon HDX suite with ARINC429 incorporating a Garmin 175 WAAS Navigator. I'm happy that I can use it fly RNAV approaches with lateral guidance, but can it also provide vertical guidance? Or is this only available if it is fed with BARO data?

I've loaded the latest NAVDATA into the GPS175 and can't see any RNP approaches listed. Seem to restrict them all to be RNAV only. Can I overcome this or is this the best I'll be able to achieve with this kit?

Happy to discuss if someone has time to call. Sorry if this is a noob question.

Many thanks,

Dan

Yes. This is my setup as well, and it works perfectly. You need to set up both systems correctly (and it was 5 years ago, so I don't recall what the set ups were), but as long as they are set up right, it works.

So the auto-pilot will physically fly the vertical profile?

This might be an obvious question, but are you running expert mode for autopilot? I don't think the VNAV button does anything in simple mode.

I also have the GPS175 and it works with vertical profile.

I just completed the install of Garmin 175 and its interfaced into my HDX. HDX AP does have to be in expert mode. Odd issue yesterday when flying a RNAV/VNAC approach with AP, at about DA there was a sudden change from about 300fpm decent to about 500+ decent fpm. Quick disconnect of AP and hand flew past DA. Probably best but shocking none the less!

Ok thanks guys I'll check to see if it's in EM. Another thought, does Obstacles data have to be current. Only NAVDATA is current ATM. It's probably just me not knowing how to load and configure the VNAV but all approaches are listed as RNAV in the menu rather than RNP, which is the title of the plates I'm wishing to fly. Hence why I'm assuming it won't follow a vertical profile
