When I key the mic button on the stick, it (most of the time) disengages all functions of the AP 74 autopilot...My audio panel is a Garmin 340

Sounds like a disconnect function. Is there an autopilot disconnect switch on the stick, or maybe the wiring for one? You might have a short between the wires if that's the case.
