    HDX trade up

Picked wrong week to install new HDX. I thought the only difference between the Classic install and the HDX was the need to drill two new holes on bottom of both units. Have discovered that the screws are smaller, thus new nut plates. This has gone from a DIY to hire a professional. Also learned...

ILS on Garmin 530W with a Skyview Classic

Use my Garmin for nav. Use the Skyview for SA, it gives a better display. Loaded an ILS on the Garmin under procedure and then D to the airport on the Skyview. Ten miles out went to LOC on the Garmin as the controller. The loc and gs were active and on the Skyview but the cdi was not...

    AOA calibration

Followed the on screen instructions to calibrate the AOA. Tried to get several “stall” markers in different flap settings. Clean, quarter, half,3/4and full flaps. After each stall, I hit the stall button followed by the save button presented on the screen. I was thinking that I could do this...

    AOA Calibration

Bought a RV8A from an estate, so there is no one to ask the obvious. I have the heated Dynon pitot and verified in annual that I have it plumbed correctly with blue and white hose to ADHRS. I have found the one page instructions on page 15.3 of the installation manual on calibration...

    Heated AOA

It looks like I do in fact a Dynon heated AOA pitot after all, which saves me $450, plus install. Now if I can just figure out how to read the AOA on the display

    Heated AOA

Lessons learned today. Called Dynon tech and discovered that they only sale AOA pitot heaters. After locating the heater module on the wing spar, I looked closely at the pitot tube and it does have two holes, one centered and another underneath. There are two plastic 1/4” lines, one blue and...

    Heated AOA

Thanks for the replies. I currently have a Dynon heated pitot. There are two 1/4” tubing runs from the pitot along with electric wires running in a bundle through the wing and entering the aircraft under floor mid ship and then fwd to the instrument panel. I bought the mostly finished aircraft...

    Heated AOA

RV8A is in annual and all tore up with panels off. Have wanted AOA info for some time. Soliciting opinions on post installation satisfaction and ease of installation. I currently have a heated pitot. Is is just a manner of adding one additional wire to a pin on the back of the Dynon Classic?

Seattle Avionics chart data… yet again

Here is a pic of my data manager. No text, no red balls, no green balls. However it is still updating IFR hi, which I have toggled off. Seattle Avionics has.l been sooo frustrating for the 18 months that I’ve had the plane. Every month it takes 3 hours of downloading to just do the new. Two to...

Trouble with Seattle Avionics DataManager.... again....

I too have been SOO frustrated with SA for over a year. I too didnt know it would only work on Windows and bought a cheap PC just for SA downloads. I do just the updates and it takes over 20 minutes per stick . This isn’t 1984 and it should just work better. got a note about a new data manger...

I have a heated pitot and would like to add the AOA feature with Dynons unit. Anyone made the switch and what is involved in tying it into a SkyView Classic?

    SV320 Back up battery

New owner from an estate, so there’s no one to ask the obvious. I have a Skyview Classic 10” and 7”. I get a “back up battery inop” annunciator on start up on the 7”. I did a battery test on the 10” and it passes. Looked into the avionics bay and see one SV320. Question, is it possible to run...

Trouble with Seattle Avionics DataManager.... again....

Not realizing that I couldn’t download the data on a MAC, I had to buy a cheap windows laptop. It worked, but my $99 just jumped to $399 this year to use SA data. :(
