When I set the barometric pressure, the field elevation is off by 80 feet. I waited about 10 minutes for it to settle out. Is there a way to correct this? I can live with the 80' difference, but if there is a way to adjust it, I would like to do it. This is on a D10

Yes, this is on page 7-1 of the installation guide.
I urge you to read the manual

Thanks for the reference and the encouragement to read the manual. Unfortunately the reference you gave me was in the D10A installation manual, not the D10 manual for the instrument that I have. I was able to locate the correct procedure in the D10 Pilot User Guide in the trouble shooting section, so I will give that a try tomorrow.

A second question that I have is about adjusting the encoder. In my previous plane there was an encoder with a high and low altitude adjusting screws. I could not find any reference to that for the D10, is that just something that is not needed for these?

Sorry for the mix up with the manuals, I should have more thoroughly read your first post.

Do you have a transponder in your plane that has the encoder connected to it?

Encoders are calibrated to pressure altitude (referenced to 29.92 InHg or 1013.25Mb), not barometric altitude.

Depending on which encoder you have, there are manuals online that show you the calibration procedure, but you will need a calibrated pitot/static test set.

"The gray code output of the EFIS-D10 reports altitude not adjusted for barometric pressure.
There is no way to alter the output of the encoder."
OK, I understand that, but what about the 2 year certification where it is adjusted to match the proper output. My other plane had an encoder with two adjustment screws, one for high altitude and one for low. Is there such an adjustment on this unit?

During the two yearly check, the altitude of the EFIS is compared to the altitude on the pitot static test set.
If it is incorrect, the ALTADJ in the EFIS setup menu is used to make them read the same.
This also adjusts the gray code output to suit.
