I notice in the "What's new" area, that the latest release of Skyview (ver17.4) says it has added
"... On screen NAV radio tuning now available for NAV radios such as Trig TX56/57..."

I am about to add a Garmin GNC-215 to my panel. Does anyone know if this unit will be compatible with this feature?

If you did a little research in the Trig Install Manual, you will find that the RS232 format that the Trig TX56/57 units use is the Garmin SL-30 protocol, which is also the GNC215 protocol, so they should be compatible with the Trig input/output. Below is cut from the Trig TX56/57 install manual. I have always been able to load the NAV frequencies from the SkyView into the NAV side of my SL-30 using the nearest VOR function under MAP, but it loaded it in to the standby window, and I needed the panel transfer button to load it into the active window to work. Hopefully, they added a transfer button in the NAV screen, like in the COMM screen so you can remote swap the standby and active frequencies like you can on the COMM’s.

If this is all true, then there is a good chance that the VAL NAV 2KR remote NAV unit will also work as they also use the SL30 protocol, if there is a transfer button on the HDX NAV Button that will swap the nav frequencies. The VAL NAV2000 does work with the HDX, as I install one for a friend in his RV7 to get his instrument rating. I have been telling Dynon for years they needed this function, and since now they are partners with a company that has a NAV receiver, they are doing it it. Now if Trig can come up with remote COMM and NAV units to free up panel space, and they will have a better mousetrap.

Nice surprise. New Installation, User and Third Party Connection Manuals released two days ago, and they say it can.

"SkyView can send COM and NAV frequencies to the GNC 215 or GNC 255 A/B standby frequency.

SkyView does not push database information for these device's "Nearest" or "Flight Plan Airports" feature."

That's from the Third Party Connection Reference.

Well, I installed 17.4 on a friends HDX system with a SL30. A NAV Radio button appeared in the Menu page and works just like the COMM Radio button. One main difference is, once you type the new frequency in, it will automatically load it in the Standby side on both the COMM and NAV, and you don’t have to push the tune radio button on the bottom anymore, and all you have to do is hit Swap button on the NAV Radio page and it does work. The COMM page works the same way.

Now, I did try changing the radio to the GNC215, but since I don’t have a GNC215, I could not check it out.

But it works just like I asked Dynon to do like 5 years ago.

If you try it with a GNC215, post here that it works also.

Rhino, it does not push the databases, but will load the frequencies from the SkyView database to the radios. Under the nearest button, you can push the VOR tab, pick a VOR, and it will load that frequency into the NAV standby side. You can also do it with the COMM frequencies under the airport tab. I have done if for years, and just tested it again with 17.4.

I just quoted the manual that said it sent the frequencies. The manual describes that as "database information", which technically it is, because the frequencies are derived from the database. Regardless, that's all just terminology. We both know what it's doing.
