10 degree fluctuation on oil temp

My oil temp fluctuates about 10 degrees all the time. Its not really a problem unless its a hot day departure and I get up near redline on the climb.
The temp changes about every 3-5 seconds.

Is there anyway to smooth this out?

If you have a Rotax with a spade style connector it needs to be squeezed down more. If they get a little loose they can swing back and forth as much as 10F-40F

Generally these end up being an intermittent connection, and on occasion a bad sensor.

I will verify the connection on the sensor again.

I will also pull the plug out of the ems and see what the pin crimp looks like.

Is there any test I can do to the sensor other than buying a new one?

Actually, this is almost always a bad ground between the engine and the EMS. You have to have a really, really good ground to get accurate readings.

none of the other sensors do this?

still think its a bad ground?

Yes. Oil temp, when warm, is much more sensitive to ground issues than any other sensor.

It's technically the alternator current running through the resistance in the ground that causes a voltage offset, not the pure resistance. The variance you see in the sensor is due to the current changing and varying the temperature error.
