I apologize for a rookie question, but an answer from someone here may save me hours of searching and research!

Background: I am building an RV-12. The original kit version avionics had a D-180, an AP-74, and an optional D-100. With everything else in the plane, the rather current-limited Rotax 912ULS could handle this load, and the plane was approved with this option combo.

Now Van's offers the Skyview, but in an installation with only one 10-inch screen. Apparently after trying with 2 10-inch screens, they decided that the power budget was too close and that it might not be a poipular option, so a second SV screen is not being offerred directly by them.

(Note - after you build the kit and certify it as an E-LSA, you can then do any mod that you want. Also note that some have built the RV-12 as E-AB, not E-LSA, and are running dual 10 inch Skyview with no apparent problem.)

My specific questions have to do with eventually adding a secondary 7 inch SV screen:
1. What is the power consumption difference between a 7" SV unit and a 10 inch?
2. What is the power consumption difference for these two comparisons:
2a: a 10 inch SV and a 7 inch SV, single ADHRS
2b: one single D-180, AP-74, and D-100?
Assume no backup battery or charger, I can add that in separately.

Any response with links would be appreciated! I have done a minimal amount of searching on the site for electrical load specs and comparisons and come up empty. DItto for inside the Skyview installation guide.

THANKS!
Bill H.

The power consumption values are in the install manuals downloadable from the website. http://www.dynonavionics.com/docs/support_documentation.html

Thanks - I am downloading those. Another question - assume that I have a fully installed single-screen 10 inch Skyview. What is needed to add a second 7 inch screen? Assume I do not want a redundant ADHRS. Is there only a single data connection between the two? (And does this work if the 1st unit fails?) Or is it needed to parallel some or all of the input wiring going to the 10 inch screen - the engine sensors, for example, to the 7"? If so is a simple adapter "splitter" cable adequate or would there be impedence issues?

Bill:

Most recent SkyView System Installation Guide (PDF) is available at:
http://www.dynonavionics.com/downloads/Install_Guides/SkyView_System_Installation_Guide-Rev_I_Software_v3.2.pdf. On Page 2-1, there's a chart with the info you're looking for.

With no backup battery attached, SkyView Display will draw up to 3.5A @ 12V or 1.8A @ 24V. We don't make a distinction between the SV-D700 vs SV-D1000 power consumption because the difference between the two is negligible.

Most recent FlightDEK-D180 Installation Guide is available at:
http://www.dynonavionics.com/downloads/Install_Guides/FlightDEK-D180_Installation_Guide.pdf. On page 2-2, the first full paragraph has the information you're looking for: a FlightDEK-D180 can draw up to 1.5A @ 12V, 0.8A @ 24V.

Most recent EFIS-D100 Installation Guide is available at:
http://www.dynonavionics.com/downloads/Install_Guides/EFIS-D100_Installation_Guide.pdf. On Page 2-1, the Power Requirements section has the information you're looking for: an EFIS-D100 can draw up to 1.5A @ 12V, 0.8A @ 24V.

Power consumption of an AP74 is negligible - 0.25A.

There needs to be electrical continuity between multiple SkyView Displays and the SV-ADAHRS. You can do that in any number of ways, all of which are explained in the SkyView System Installation Manual. If you start with one SkyView display and one SV-ADAHRS, and later add a display, you only need to connect the new display to the existing display. The SkyView Network connectors on the back of each SkyView display are electrically passive if the unit fails - you won't lose connectivity between the new SkyView display and the SV-ADAHRS if the original SkyView display fails.
