I wish Dynon would sell an attitude indicator that would fit in a standard 2-1/4 inch instrument hole.  This would serve as a backup for a single-screen SkyView system in IMC.

I'm aware of the D1 and D2 but I want something that's a drop-in fit for a 2-1/4 instrument hole.  And I don't want the clutter of the other readings on such a tiny screen.  No WiFi connectivity, no suction cups,no G-meter: just an attitude indicator with functionally equivalent to the ones produced by J.E.T. and Mid-Continent.  Except not so crazy-expensive.

Joe:

The EFIS-D6 - link - would seem to meet your requirements, but it needs the larger 3 1/4" instrument hole. All the elements of the 6-pack can be disabled, leaving only the elements you want to see.

Alas, the physical size of the EFIS-D6 makes it a non-starter for me.  I really need something to fill an existing 2-1/4" instrument hole.

But I'm curious: can this instrument display attitude without pitot pressure?

Whoever does end up marketing a 2 1/4" AI for experimental is going to sell me one too.

Attitude on the D10/D100 requires airspeed, but it can fall back to GPS if it's connected. We call that GPS Assist mode. The attitude performance isn't quite as good as when equipped with airspeed, but it won't get you in trouble either.

Winter make a very nice 2.25 inch attitude indicator, but at a fairly breathtaking price.

There is also a South African company, in much the same line of business as Dynon, who make a 2.25 inch AHARS based indicator. I guess you could use it to get out of cloud, but I would hate to have to use it for long, but I know a couple of guys who have them as back up and they seem to like them.

One advantage is that they can run on a standard flat 9 volt battery as a back up, you simply wire a diode to switch it to backup battery if the normal voltage drops below 9 volts, so it is a useful backup if you have a complete electrical failure.

Not going to mention a competitors name on the Dynon forum though :) :)

PCFlightSystems make a small attitude indicator that sounds like what you're looking for.

Check out their Egyro. No idea how good it is, but might be worth while looking into.
