Carl:
Elaborating on our earlier reply, mentioning the previous discussion thread, with some update...
Given that there is 4-5 years until there will be a significant demand for a certified GPS standalone (no display, no navigator), to comply with the FAA's 2020 ADS-B Mandate, anything is possible. It's Dynon's position that as we approach 2020, the market will respond to the demand for more affordable certified GPS receivers to enable pilots to meet this requirement at reasonable cost.
Dynon Avionics has no
current plans to offer a certified GPS unit, but if you want to equip your plane NOW for the FAA 2020 ADS-B Mandate, it is possible. For example, we were pleased to learn that our friends at Trig Avionics have debuted their
TN70 WAAS GPS Receiver and Antenna to respond to this market need. (Note that this device is so new that SkyView doesn't yet support it as an certified GPS input to Dynon transponders.)
Just curious if Dynon is looking to provide a ADSB compliant GPS receiver at some point. If so, does this then open the door for Dynon to go into the IFR certified GPS market and provide some healthy competition to the Garmin monopoly?
I understand a hard answer is not possible - but perhaps we can get a "we are considering it"?
