430W with HS34 and no glideslope

Gentlemen, I am now at 25.2 hours (hooray!) and have most of the squawks worked out. However, I am having glideslope problems.

I have the FlightDEK 180, an HS34, and a Garmin 430W. The GPS and NAV radios provide output to the HS34 because they work. When I load a GPS approach I get horizontal and vertical guidance. HOwever, I am not getting a glideslope using the NAV radio on the HSI.

I tune the localizer on the 430W at my home airport and, when flying a visual approach, just watch the HSI. I get horizontal guidance, and the HSI has the "GS" flag, but no vertical guidance.

So, what gives? Do I have to "load" the approach in the 430W before it gives me the glideslope output to the HS34? If the answer to that is "yes," that explains my problems. If NOT, then I SHOULD be getting vertical and horizontal guidance on the HS34 when the NAV radio is tuned to the localizer frequency, regardless of whether the approach is loaded or not.

If NOT, then I have something programmed wrong I think.

Anyone?

You do not have to have an approach loaded to get NAV signals out of the 430W.

What airport?

Does the HSI show up as Green on the Dynon?

There's no additional setup required. The fact there is a flagged GS on the screen means the 430 is actively telling us that it's trying to pick up a GS signal, but there is no signal to be found. Either there is no glideslope at that airport, it's broken, or you have an issue with your GS antenna or your 430.

Just a thought :D -- do you have a glideslope antenna or Diplexor fitted ?
