Forgive the likely novice question, but will an altitude encoder be required for my GTX327 or is that function inherent in the ADAHRS unit and thus I just need to communicate with the GTX327...?

Thanks

Russ,

The 327 serial In will just need to be connected to one of the EFIS serial Out lines. It will take the altitude information from the data stream. I believe the 327 will be set to Icarus but someone who has done this should be along to confirm this shortly. In any case, you do not need a grey code converter or altitude digitizer. It is a one wire connection!

Good morning, long time observing first time posting. I have just installed my Skyview EFIS and have the GTX 327 connected to serial 4 TX from the EFIS. I have configured the serial port on the EFIS for Icarus and have the input on the GTX 327 configured the same yet I don't show any pressure altitude on my Garmin. Is this normal when still on the ground with the Transponder in standby? Does the transponder require an enterogation for it to show altitude?

The GTX327 should show pressure altitude as soon as the SV boots up or shortly after it boots. The SV should show the altitude and set on 29.92 will agree with the pressure altitude shown on the GTX427.

One thing to check is the baud rate on both systems. Also both have the capability to show if they are sending/recieving data. Find those functions to check for a transmissions.
