Yesterday I had a momentary loss of power during descent. I had 10gal in the left wing (33gal capacity) and the power loss occurred 2 minutes into the descent. Lancairs are prone to unporting the fuel pickup during uncoordinated flight. If I was yawed to the left (which typically happens in a dive) this would make sense. I'm streaming the serial data to a laptop for post-flight analysis. The data clearly shows a lateral acceleration, but the 'lateral g's sign' is negative. This doesn't jibe with my other information.

Is it possible there's a typo in the Appendix E of the installation manual? Should a '-' sign mean acceleration to the left?

Thanks,
Adam Molny

Looking into the answer. Agree that the documentation could be better. To clear up confusion, the answer will be in the form of, "When lateral G sign is positive, the ball is deflected to the ______".

OK. so '+' means ball to the right, '-' means ball to the left. That means that the manual is right. If you gave the aircraft a push from the right side, accelerating it "leftward" laterally, you'd get a + indication.

In your case, since it's negative (ball left), that means that either the aircraft was accelerating to the right, or if it were not accelerating, but in a non-coordinated steady state, was rolled left (again, ball left).

Excellent, thanks for clearing that up! Since this was a safety of flight issue I wanted to make sure all the data was corroborated.
