Hey guys, I know I am jumping the gun, but I have started connectting my SV[ch8208]XPNDR[ch8208]26X to my GTN in preparation for the ADS-B.. Two questions.

1st, the signal out of the GPS needs to be specified to be the ADS-B format correct? (vs. RS 232 format)

2nd, What specifically is the 1.21K ohm resister for in between the GPS and the Transponder? Your current documentation only pictures it once and doesn't refer to it yet.

Thanks

1) For now, the GTN doesn't output a format that they allow to be used to feed ADS-B out devices directly. See http://www8.garmin.com/aviation/notices/1215.pdf. And if they don't allow it, even there's a compatible format, it's not legal. So for now, don't connect it up that way. SkyView provides perfectly precise but technically "non-certified" GPS position directly into the xponder, which is legal to use until 2020. What formats the transponder will ultimately be support from a certified device are still being finalized.

2) That will be needed in series when connected to a certified GPS.

Is there any plan to update your GPS (SV-GPS-250) or come out with a GPS to replace SV-GPS-250 that is TSO-C146A GPS (WAAS) compliant that can be used with ADS-B out in 2020? In other words, will I need a TSO-C146A GPS (WAAS) from another manufacturer to be ADS-B out compliant with SkyView when the year 2020 rolls around?

No specific plans, but, let's put it this way: 2020 is just about as far away from now as we were from selling the original EFIS-D10 back in 2003. In other words, by 2020, we might be implanting chips in your brain :)
