ADS-B/Xponder anomaly

I love my SkyView package, but yesterday I had a bit of an anomaly.

I flew into an airport on a rare IFR clearance and squawk. When I later left VFR, the tower told me to squawk 1200 as I was showing myself to be an American Airlines flight.

That part is my bad. Anyway, leaving a very busy airport, I quickly hit VFR on the EFIS to change the squawk. About 10 seconds later I get a traffic alert and a screen depiction of a target right next to my position and showing my same altitude in concert with four or five other targets in the vicinity. Naturally, my head was on a swivel for several seconds until it dawned on me that my system was alerting me about myself, shortly thereafter the alert and depiction went away and my heart re-started.

Is it normal for the system to see itself as a target, and is there a way that I have missed to have the transponder reset itself to 1200 by default on shutdown and restart?

Do you have just the transponder or ADS-B as well?

It's not "normal" but it's not unheard of for the system to show you as a ghost during times of transition. Generally this has nothing to do with SkyView, it's the way the FAA's traffic system works, but we can describe more when we know more about your system.

I had a similar experience yesterday. Several real targets were identified but I also had several target sightings on the PFD both on the nose and left and right with nothing visible out the windscreen or on the plan view.
Skyview with ADSB receiver, Dynon/ Trig transponder and GNS430 GPS.
