Antenna Information

The SV-ADSB-470 requires its own antenna; it cannot share the transponder’s antenna. The selected antenna should be installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions. A UAT-specific antenna or a transponder antenna may be used with the SV-ADSB-470. Antennas available include (but are not limited to):

Delta Pop (non-TSO):
http://www.deltapopaviation.com/UAT_Antenna.html

Rami AV-74 (TSO’d):
http://www.rami.com/product-view.php?pid=24

Also, any antenna suitable for use with an aircraft transponder will work with the SV-ADSB-470.

The ADS-B antenna must be installed at least two-feet from the transponder antenna.

In general, the $14 $21 transponder antenna from ACS is always a good choice.

You're probably referring to the $21.75 TED transponder antenna, Aircraft Spruce p/n 11-17995:

I have one for my ADSB-In receiver (and another for my transponder) and while I can't give a quantitative report, I've been very pleased with it (with both of them) on a 2000 NM cross-country as well as local flights.

My SkyView displays weather including NEXRAD radar in my hangar which never ceases to amaze me when I consider a 1 GHz antenna two feet off the concrete floor!  (Of course, proximity to the ADSB base station is a definite factor <g>.)

I have the cheap transponder antenna from ACS. It is working nicely. I remember a thread on Vansairforce.net discussing this a good while back and it was said by knowledgeable people that the difference in the performance was perhaps minutiae.

For those of you with plastic airplanes, you might look at the Advanced Aircraft Electronics (http://www.advancedaircraft.com/index.htm) transponder antenna. It is $99, but seems to work OK for transponder use in my plane. I have set one up in my wingtip for ADSB, but have not yet had a chance to use test it. Be aware long coax runs may require more expensive low-loss coax. Plane is in FL, but I am currently in NC. Hope to test it in a few weeks.

I used the Advanced Aircraft Electronics antenna in my fiberglass aircraft for the transponder and ADS-B. The installation was super easy and I have excellent results on ADS-B and the transponder. I recommend this antenna for anybody with a fiberglass aircraft. Here is a photo of the ADS-B antenna installation. I used RG-400 coax even though both antennas are within 3ft of their respective module.
