How about an assigned altitude indicator with alerting? Ie, an easily accessed function that allows you to select an assigned altitude to the nearest 500 or 1000 feet (I would mainly want to use it for IFR so 1000 feet and only IFR flight levels would suit me but configurable in the setup would be good).
Once the EFIS detects the aircraft moving 500 / 1000 feet either way, some sort of audible beep / dry contact or otherwise could be triggered to alert the pilot.
I see this being a pretty useful feature in RV's at night / IFR / CTA and I suspect it would be fairly easy to implement.
