There is no benefit of the GPS-2020 over the GPS-250 unless you need to be legal in the USA.

Sunfish, I've emailed CASA asking if they would consider approving the GPS-2020 as a position source for ADS-B under CAO 20.18, as it meets their performance requirements contained within AC 21-45, but haven't heard back from them yet either way. The chap I got the initial email from suggested there was a possibility CASA will follow the US lead and allow blanket approval for GNSS sources that "meet the performance requirements of..." in the same manner the FAA has done, but that was policy still in development. Hopefully they can be persuaded the -2020 is sufficient in the mean time...

Now, a question for the Dynon guru's (again)...
I've upgraded to the GPS-2020, but don't want it to broadcast SIL=3/SDA=2 yet. The installation manual suggests that setting the transponder GPS source to "Dynon SV-GPS-250 SIL/SDA=1" will broadcast SDA/SIL=1, but it also says select this option if you don't have a -2020 but you do have a -250.

Can I use the SV-GPS-250 SIL/SDA=1 option with a -2020 GPS installed, to stop it broadcasting SIL=3/SDA=2?

There is not a way to downgrade the 2020 to SIL/SDA =1. You can use it as a SIL/SDA=0 device by choosing "GENERIC NMEA" at 115,200 baud.

20 minutes for an answer?!? Wow! No worries, thanks, I'll whack the -250 back in on a spare serial port and sit it on the glare shield in the interim.

Was good to talk to you today Jake, let me know if Airservices give the ok to test mine as well. Safe flying!
