AOA audio output question

I am interested in connecting the AOA audio on my D10A to a device that would be audible or visible in the cabin of the RV-6. I assume the audio output is a modulated signal. Is there an easy way to convert this output to DC voltage that would drive a beeper/buzzer/warning light/whatever?

Thanks in advance,

Sam Buchanan

The output of the audio line is 16.8V peak-peak, at 1k ohm of impedance, and between 200 and 1KHz. It will drive into an audio panel and put noise in your headset. We generate different noises for different alarms (general alarm, AoA, autopilot, altitude alerter...)

If you're looking to put it into a external buzzer or drive an external light, we can't be much help, as we didn't design it for that nor have we ever attempted it. With a small op-amp and some thought it could be done for sure though.

Thanks for the reply, the specs of the signal output may be helpful if I hand this off to some electrical engineer types in our group.

I would be much interested also in connecting the AOA signal to some external LEDs.  I.e. I would like to have a green, yellow or orange, and red LED sitting on top of the panel so I could monitor AOA in peripheral vision while looking ahead during landing and takeoff.  Something like http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/inpages/aoasport.php but even a single LED for each color would be fine.  Like the OP, I could find a EE to design the circuitry needed given the AOA signal parameters.  But maybe Dynon would want to make this their own project and offer a product as described.

We've started maintaining Parts and Tools pages on our collaborative wiki, but haven't yet added a page for 3rd-party products that interface with ours. Feel free to create it!

Vx-Aviation sells a product that does just that.

Back to the Vx-Aviation V-Speed Auxiliary Display System.  Is Dynon's HS34 required for 3rd party products?  I ask because the installation manual for the V-Speed says "Easy to connect: power, ground, Dynon serial transmit bus...", and the manual for the D-100 says "The EFIS-D100 has one RS-232 serial port that can be used for several purposes. This serial port can only be configured for one purpose at a time", implying that with the V-Speed connected one could not also connect, say, a GPS without the HS34.

No, the HS34 is not required. The receive half of the serial port on the EFIS is nominally used to receive GPS or SL30 information, while the transmit side of that same port outputs a bunch of EFIS installation (this is documented in the pilot's user guide). The Vx product only needs that the data from the transmit side.
