Approach Stack - Sharing Garmin 430 Data?

Just got back from a lengthy trip.  I was able to very quickly update my SVs version 2.0 - awesome job!!

I have two Skyviews, EMS, ADAHRS and I am using the Approach Stack system.  I have the same Dynon GPS hooked up to both systems, both show position - no problem.

My question - will the GNS-430 data working for the pilot SV (already configured for co pilot) share the data?  Or, does it need to be directly hooked up to both systems?

The HSI on co-pilot side does not show any GNS-430 input.  Does it get passed via the "network?"

Thanks  Tim

Tim,

I went through the same thing. Yes, you need to connect the 430 serial TX line to a SV Serial RX line for each SV screen and set the config of both screens appropriately. If you have the 430 RX line connected to anything, be sure it is only connected to one SV screen serial TX wire (many listeners = OK, only one talker allowed).

Until you do this, the "other" screen will not get any data from the 430. Also, if you have SV autopilot installed, it will not show TRACK mode available until both screens have 430 input.

Tim,

Sorry, I mispoke a little on the last post. You will not see NAV mode on the autopilot until both screens have the 430 data. You will be able to see TRACK mode with just one screen seeing data. BTW, 10+ kts of GPS velocity are required to see TRACK/NAV mode show up.

Tom,

Thanks for the quick reply. I suspected I would need to directly attach the GNS-430 to both SVs. I will contact Approach Stacks to see if they can make a harness the taps into the data.

Autopilot question? It appears from the wiring diagram that the servos are part of the network. Can you control/activate the autopilot from both SVs, or is there "one master system? Tim

Tim,

Now I am guessing, cause I have always done it from the pilot's seat. Since there is not supposed to be a "master" in SV, I think you can do it from either.

Tom,

OK, you are on a roll!!

One more - it appears from the wiring diagram, I can splice the (2 separate servos) servo wires (White/Blue, White/Green, Blue, Green) into the existing Skyview Network (One running between the two SkyViews).

Make sense?  Tim

Tim,

That is correct and exactly what I did. Just be sure to leave the other SV Net wires alone that run between the screens and/or to the other SV decives on the net.

This is all shown on page 9-8 of the Installation Manual.

Tom,

Yup, that is what I was reading.  I was a little confused with the servo install kit.  Way too many DB9 connectors.

Now all I need to do is update my servo software :-(  I sold my D10 a while back, and will need to borrow it to update them.

Thanks again!!  Tim

Folks,

I just spoke to Tim at Approach Stack.  He will build me a harness that will connect to the hub (a unit that passes all data via DB connectors) allowing me to receive the correct GNS-430 serial data between both SVs.

Tim will also create the harness for the future "AIRINC box," once it is created.

The Approach Stack Hub system is truly a plug and play setup.  I have been able to upgrade my panel on four different occasions - I highly recommend this system.
