ASI colours

Hi all

Here we go for another funny yet serious request. I recently moved from 5400' to sea level, and with that has come an increase in available power in my aeroplane. So much so, that I now find myself easily reaching the yellow arc or segment on my ASI... Problem is that I am slightly colour-blind, and have become aware of the similarity in intensity between the yellow and green segments on the speed tape. To my eye, the boundary between the two segments is not visible whilst flying, and only shimmers into view after a few seconds of concentration.

Would it be possible to either make the green or yellow segment a bit darker?

Thanks
Etienne

Ahem  :D

This was bothering me again today... It really would be nice to have a darker green colour used on the ASI.

Currently, it's this green and I propose changing it to this green, which is very different to this yellow...

Thanks
Etienne

I have another ASI color question.

What do these colors have to do with the autopilot? I see in the autopilot installation that input of the colors (well, the Vxx speeds anyway) is required.

I plan on installing an autopilot, but my plane has no flaps, so I don't need the white arc at all, and the top of the green arc actually touches the red line.

FWIW, a blue line would be nice, for those of us with two engines.

We use the stall speed and VNE as limits on where you can set your airspeed limits for the AP.

If you set VNE to 200 knots, we're not going to let you set the AP Vmax above that, and vice versa with stall speed. It's only those two numbers that are used, and only as limits on other numbers that you can set yourself.

You can eliminate the white arc by setting the top and bottom limits of that arc the same and setting the bottom of the green equal to them both. By the way, aren't they called "Flaperons?" That contains the word "Flap"...

;)

Blue line? Is that for afterburners? I gotta get a ride in that thing - visited Burt right around the time he announced the original.

Blue line is Vme - the minimum control speed with the critical engine failed.

Not that I'm promising it in the software anytime soon.

Nope, regular ailerons on the rear wings, and elevators on the canard.
Sorry for the thread hijack...

That's a tough one. I believe that the color palette is system-wide, and all of the colors were chosen quite deliberately to maximize contrast (which particularly helps in direct sunlight conditions). Also, right now, feature development on our first generation products is taking a bit of a hiatus while we concentrate a bit on the next gen. I'll add it to the list of customer requests though.

One suggestion - you could use the IAS bug to mark the green/yellow boundary.

There may be things that could be done to highlight the difference between the green and yellow ranges, without changing the colour palette.
  • Perhaps a thick black line could be added at the transistion between green and yellow.
  • If that isn't a visible enough difference, perhaps the yellow band could get a slightly thicker black outline to make it stand out from the green.
  • Or, the yellow band could get some diagonal black "barber pole" bands to make it stand out.
These are just ideas that may or may not be acceptable once implemented.
