Hello Forumites,
I am new to this forum.
I am building a rv9a in the UK and I have to make a decision on what to put in my panel.
In fact I made the decision with very little consideration when I was closing the wing and wanted to fit the servo mounts I chose Dynon as they were the ones I could get quickly.
However now I have really looked at the options I think I have made the right decision.
I now am trying to decide if I go with 2 x D1000 to give me full redundancy which would give me a very simple panel with only a radio required plus the altimeter and asi that are compulsery.
Otherwise I would go with 1x D1000 plus a Garmin 695. I would not then have redundancy of my flight instruments which for VFR does not greatly concern me and I would add a turn coordinator as a back up.
The cost is important to me and I believe the above both offer good value for money I certainly am not going to consider the likes of panel mount Garmin 430 and 530.
The queries I have are as follows.
The Dynon GPS softwear is new and the features would seem to be behind the Garmin, there is also a real data issue in Europe which has been aired on this forum. The two Dynons would give me a better set up panel but can I trust them to sort this.
How reliable is the equipment, is redudancy a real issue. How have users found the relability what components are more likely to fail
I am concerned that having so many features in one bit of eqipment will increase the work load by increasing the actions you need to make for simple tasks. For example keying in a transponder code or operating the autopilot. Can you have the autopliot disconnect on the control stick.
Cost wise the two Dynons are a little more expensive about £1000 which is largely accounted for by the provision of redundancy.
