is it possible to hook up a backup air speed indicator by teeing into the existing pitot pressure line?

Yes. The pitot - static system with an electronic PFD installed is no different than mechanical gauges, and we've been T-ing this system forever. The static system in a standard 6 pack goes to the Altimeter, Airspeed, and Vertical speed instruments.
