backup battery connection

The install guide states the backup battery is charged via the skyview. Since my system will have two batteries that are constantly charged while running the engine, can I place a diode in series with the + lead of one of these batteries and connect it to the skyview's wiring harness, thereby not using the skyview's charging function? This saves me the $$$ and weight of the additional battery.

I'm not quite clear on your proposed wiring diagram, however I think you're planning to connect both your aircraft's batteries to the Dynon main power input? This would not give you the same level of failsafe as you would have with the Dynon backup battery installed, and depending on how the wiring is connected, may even cause a higher potential for failure. If you can tolerate a failure of the electrical system taking your display offline, you really don't need the Dynon backup battery. You should NOT hook-up any battery to the Skyview display backup battery input except the factory supplied backup battery!

edit-
In re-reading your post, I think I misunderstood your question; are you talking about multiple displays sharing a single dynon back-up battery? If that's the case, then I'm not sure what the results might be. Dynon would have to answer that. One downside is that the battery would only last half as long, another might be that two displays may discharge the battery at a higher rate than the battery can safely support.

The only thing you can hook to the SkyView battery wires is a SkyView battery. The issue with an aircraft battery is that it can be 30V sometimes (like when you dump a load off the alternator), and 5V other times. This input is designed for a very specific voltage input, not the huge range of the main input. Even 15V on this input would likely damage the system.

If you have two batteries in the plane, then you'll need to use some external switching to hook both of these to SkyView's main power input.

You must also use one battery per screen, if you were to hook two up, the safety circuit inside the battery would trigger due to overcharge and over-discharge.
