Backup battery discharging over time

I notice if I don't fly for a while (~a few weeks) the Skyview backup battery will be discharged. It is discharged to the point where it won't power the Skyview. Because of this the backup battery was replaced about 6 months ago but this also happens with the new battery. I can see loosing some charge after a month of inactivity but totally dead?

With the Skyview system off is there any sort of small trickle current being drawn?

What is a reasonable period of time to expect the backup battery charge to remain viable without charging?

Although all rechargeable batteries self-discharge over time, but not that quickly. Should last months. I'm not sure if there are ways that things that are externally connected can cause an increased vampire load, but you might check with our support team directly to see if they have any additional info.

I had a battery completely fail months after installation. Would not hold or take a charge. Replaced under warranty, no problems with the new one. Start there before you tear plane apart looking for parasitic drain.

On my last conditional the plane sat for a few weeks before the inspection. When the A&P got around to it he thought the battery was bad, so he replaced it. The new battery acts exactly like the old battery. In a few weeks it is dead.

I have bench charged both the new and old batteries. After a full charge they have no problem passing the 45 minute test. But then they peter out in a few weeks.

I am going to make a test harness and see if I can measure any parasitic (I like "vampire"!) load. I will report back what I find.
