Hi, I am working on a Flight Design CTLS with a Dynon Avionics Skyview installed and am receiving a "Caution" code reading: "battery missing/ fault". I have charged and tested the battery and triple checked that the alternator is operating properly. Is there a backup battery that could be the reason for the fault? Any help is appreciated.

Page 12-8 of the install manual:

“Caution”   BATTERY MISSING/FAULT  A previously connected backup battery is no longer detected or has failed.

As Tom says, this warning is for SkyView's backup battery that provides power if the master power fails. Your system had one connected at some point, but now no longer does, either because it was removed, or it has failed.

You can go into setup and tell it you no longer have a battery and the warning will go away, but of course you also don't have a backup battery. So if you want one, you need to diagnose if the battery has been physically removed, or is no longer functioning.

Thank you for the help, I have just pulled the backup battery out and it looks intact and to have proper wire connections. Is there any way I can test the battery itself before I go out and buy a new one?

Yep. With it connected, there is diagnostic information about what SkyView sees in terms of battery voltages in SETUP MENU > LOCAL DISPLAY SETUP > BACKUP BATTERY STATUS. With it connected, you should see a non-zero voltage.

You can also probe the battery terminals directly and should see 12 +/- something volts. Careful not to short them together. You won't damage the battery, but there's a protection circuit that will cut it off from the world temporarily.
