Bending EGT Probes?

I'm installing a Skyview system in flying airplane and the Dynon EGT probes extend out too far and will interfere with the cowling.  The probes I removed had a 90° bend in them.  Is it OK to bend the Dynon probes the same way or do I need different probes?

They're not really designed to be bent. You might end up pinching the wire inside to death. though it could possibly work just fine, we wouldn't recommend it.

Just an anecdotal reference point...I somehow during construction bent one of my EGT probes, maybe about 30 degrees, in a smooth bend with reasonable radius. I have no idea how it happened, but it's worked fine for 180 hours now.

They're cheap enough that it might be worth experimenting with to see if it works for you...

Yep, we're definitely not claiming it's impossible that you can bend one (on accident or on purpose) and have it last forever. Just that they're not designed for the use case, so don't be surprised if you try it and either kill a sensor or make it less reliable.

Rather than bending the probe just relocate it. I moved my EGT sensors to the inside for better wiring. That way nothing is sticking out from the exhaust. I plugged the old hole with a stainless steel pull rivet.

The aluminum ones melt. :-/
