What is the difference between the "Black Box Log Data" and the "User Log Data" files for a particular flight? I notice these files are often split up into several parts but there is normally one that covers the entire flight.

I would certainly appreciate a description from Dynon as to why we get so many Saavy files (e.g., @ 15 separate files following a one hour flight @ one sample / five seconds!), what each one is used for, and which file is most descriptive of a flight and should be saved?
Black box data log is the last 15 minutes, which is always saved. The user data log files should be all one, but there's a bug which makes them split up. 10.1 may fix that for some people, but we know that at least some people are not seeing it fixed. So technically you want all of them (but not the black box file) for data analysis.

Most of the files I download have nothing in them or are bits and pieces of useless data. What I have had to do is look high and low for a file that has a time period that appears close to what my flight time was. All of these useless/excess files are clogging up my storage devices!

Like drferrell, 10.1 seems to have fixed the "multiple file" issue for me. Not a single issue so far.
While on the topic of log files, I wish Dynon would change the behavior of the file download procedure to separate downloading of the "user log" file from the "black box log" file. On each flight I download the log files just before shutting down and the addition of the black box log file increases the time it takes by a considerable amount. Like many others, I upload the user log file to SavvyAnalysis.com but I don't use the black box file. Not the end of the world but the time spent waiting to power off my Skyview adds up . . .

Page 24-1 of the latest install guide covers the Recent Flight Data Log / Black Box log file:
The purpose is to always have 15 minutes of full-rate datalog while the plane is in flight, even after it stops operating and the EFIS may be on for a long time after that.
Exporting it only takes about 7 seconds, so it's not really much of a waste of time to do it in parallel with all logs, but we can consider that if it is an issue for customers.

The files being split are a bug unless you are changing EMS configurations, in which case it is expected. The file with the highest number is the latest log.
We believe we fixed the split log bug in version 10.0, however, the log files are split internally as they are made- not as they are copied to the USB stick. So if you have logs from before 10.X was installed, they will still export as split. Depending on your settings, you could have 100+ flight hours of log files internally so it would take a long time to fly off all the hours from pre-10.0 flights. You can clear all your log files in the menu if you want to start fresh, and then you won't have this old split data each time you export. You may just want to clear every time you export anyway, as it cuts down on old data if you are taking it all and putting it in Savvy.

My SV 10.1 update didn't help -- I still get @ 15 files following a 1.3 hour flight. Most of the files are empty or have bits and pieces of useless data. I can find the Black Box file and usually a single file that is approximately as long as my flight - that is the file that I analyze. However, I now have over a thousand files on SAAVY for just 20+ hours of flight - not conducive to analysis!

Per Dynon Support's direction, I cleaned out all of the old flight data files in my SV and on my thumb drive in an effort to rid myself of the "multiple files" curse. EUREKA!! When I now download my latest flight file I get two simple items -- the flight data and its associated Black Box data - no more chopped-up multiple files!

After my last flight I repeatedly timed it and did not receive the same result twice. Once it took approximately 55 seconds! (This is why I requested separating the download of the User File from the Black Box File.)

Today I started a download as soon as I cleared the runway and it finally finished as I neared the end of my taxi -- certainly more than 7 seconds, probably more than 60. It doesn't always take that long but when it does, it's an issue.
Please add this to the list of defects in 10.1.

As a point of reference, my SV 10.1 downloads my flight data and black box in maybe 20-30 seconds.
