On the dual HDX system in my RV12, I occasionally get an aural Caution alert but there is no accompanying "explanation" when I push the message button - so I'm left to wonder what the Caution was for?

That was happening to me too. Dynon support pointed me to the setting that senses if the autopilot disconnect-switch wire is broken. I didn’t have the resistor connected across the switch and turning off that setting did the trick for me.

I did do a cursory review of the logs and saw the usual alert suspects that go with a "normal" startup, runup, flight and shutdown. While flying I did note the approximate time that I heard a couple of those Caution alerts. I need to delve back into the logs around those times to see if there's something other than the "usuals".
Hmmmm I'll have to study on the autopilot disconnect switch wire possibility.
I use the A/P most every flight for one thing or another and don't recall any anomalous behavior.
If there's a loose connection, momentary short or something in the A/P circuitry, I assume there'd be a record in the logs about it?

The AP disconnect switch is a normally-open contact. The resistor provides a low current flow to the AP module, which apparently is how it differentiates a completely open circuit due to a broken wire from a good circuit through the low current flow; at least that’s how I believe it works. So, if you don’t have the resistor across the AP disconnect contact, the AP module interprets no current flow to mean a broken connection. I’d still suggest checking to see how you’re configured and turn this off if it’s on. I’m just sharing the culprit that solved my CAUTION messages.
