Many of my EGT and CHT readings were erratic.

When I called Tech Support they told me to not use the "Spade" type connectors and to instead use barrel connectors (looks like a brown barrel that has an Allen bolt on the side where each thermocouple wire is stuck in from either side and the wires lay on top of each other).

I see from an image on the internet that the thermocouple wire harness that Dynon sells come with a bunch of spade type connectors.

Firstly, what was the issue with using spade connectors?

Secondly, why would Dynon include the spade connectors if they are problematic?

I use the Amp brand spade connectors, they work really well if used with a good quality crimper -IMO  the supplied pink ones are too good ie the material that they're stamped out of is a slightly thicker plate & are too hard to crimp properly.

Most of the problems with EGT/CHT sensors are from poor connections. The spade connectors themselves are not always the problem. It's the crimp to the wire that gives most of the problems. You may want to search this forum for information about EGT/CHT sensors. There has been a lot of discussion. A good investment is a good quality ratcheting crimper.

I have had a lot of problems with the thermocouples!!!!  Some, with what I think is poor quality of the actual thermocouple, and others with poor connections using the spade connectors.  Working in the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry, I decided to use dedicated, specific-built connectors I have used in past manufacturing applications.  I order most of my temp/pressure/recording equipment from Omega.  Since switching to the thermocouple designed connectors, I have had no issues, except for the occasional  thermocouple case/junction failure.  The cost of the connectors is less than $3 each, but is well worth the additional expense vs. spade connectors.  The connectors are specific for J and K TC's, and should be bought in male -female pairs.  The Ks are color coded yellow, and the Js are black.  Here is the link: http://www.omega.com/pptst/SMPW-CC.html
