Cleaning the Dynon?

I recently received my EFIS D100 Dynon from Lockwood, and am pleased with its appearance from the front view. However, the metal casing in which it is housed is soiled heavily. This is the condition I received the Dynon in, and I was told by the shop from where I purchased it that this is common. I have tried to clean off the grime with simple green cleaner to no avail. Would there be a danger of using paint thinner or a hard chemical to clean the Dynon?

Also to clean the screen (which will likely become finger - printed in the future!!!) can you avise to use anything that dos not scratch the screen? Thanks

The only thing on the outside of a product shipped from Dynon would be a few fingerprints. If this is what you mean by "heavily soiled" then it's normal. If it is more than that, it's not a normal situation. It should come off with just a damp rag.

In any case, the silver part of the case is just raw aluminum, but it's not hermetically sealed. You can go at it with whatever you would use to clean a normal airplane, but don't get any liquid inside. Be careful with simple green- it's normally not recommended on aluminum.

The screen is just a standard LCD screen. A microfiber cloth and a very mild solution (like is used for eyeglasses) works fine.
