Is is OK to calibrate the compass with the plane not level (i.e., on its tail wheel)? I would like to have the engine running during calibration since this seems to have an effect on its accuracy. I have an EFIS-D100 and EMS-D120 (both of which I am very happy with) in an RV8. Thanks.

A little clarification: I am refering to calibration steps for the EFIS for the remote compass. Does the plane have to be level as it would for as whiskey compass?

Sorry for missing this the first time. You don't need to level the plane to cal the magnetometer. As long as the EFIS and magnetometer are at the same angle, you are fine with the tailwheel on the ground as you cal.
