Compass Calibration

I cannot get my heading indications on either D10A or D100 within useable limits. I have set up mag inclination and intensity twice and have recently updated to 5.2.

D100 has remote mag sensor and is recognising it.

What else can I do to make them work? Figures and panel photo attached.

Thanks, Ham Goulding, Ireland

That's a pretty serious error on the D100. Where is your remote compass located? They are calibrated at the factory, so only local magnetic fields will mess them up. A local field that is pulling it off 40 degrees probably isn't correctable.

Since you don't mention a remote compass for the D10A, it's not unexpected that you can't get good results in the panel. Some panels just have too much interference.

Yes, I did do calibration. Twice.

The remote sensor is in the middle of the fuselage under the baggage area behind the seats.

what were the values you plugged in for intensity and inclination?

I entered 67.5 for Inclination and 49010 for Intensity.

That looks right. Also, make sure you're running the latest (5.2 as of now) firmware and recalibrate after installing it. We did fix some compass-related issues in that release. If that doesn't fix it, and you're sure there's no power / ferrous metal around the magnetometr, give tech suppport a call or email.

Just to let you know that in accordance with your suggestion I upgraded my D100 to 5.2, then recalibrated the compass system and the headings have all come right.

Delighted with the system. Thanks again.
