I am planning a Dual Skyview panel. I was wondering do you still need an additional compass or will the one in the Skyview suffice to pass the DAR inspection?

My DAR signed off on my plane with out an additional compass. He said my plane was experimental. Did not have to have one.

The requirement it to have a magnetic heading reference. As such, the SkyView of course qualifies. Then however you have to deal with whomever is going to sign off the plane. I had my RV-10 done by the FAA FSDO office and before they showed up they sent me a list of "must haves". In addition to a transponder pitot static check, I had to have a TSO wet compass. Bottom line, ask the FSDO/DAR what he/she wants. If they want a wet compass don't argue the point, just put it in. BTW - the SIRS Compass that Van's carries is a real nice unit. I even looked at it once to see if it was indicating correctly.
