Computer will not detect firmware - D180

I am trying to do my first upgrade, on the dining room table.  I have EMS D25 hooked up, but not EFIS D37.
I installed the driver and rebooted my Acer computer.  The computer detects the serial converter cord, but not the Dynon.  I looked on the Windows hardware list and there are no other comm ports in use.
I triple checked the wiring and the serial cable seems to match the 4.0 installation manual.
The remote compass is detected.
Any communication suggestions?

The EFIS is a D25, and the EMS is a D37. You should be hooked to the D25. Just checking.

Found it! It was a wiring problem. Someone else made the serial cable for me (Honestly!) and there was a problem with one of the pins.
