Hi Dynon,

I Have a D100, an D120 and a G695 to connect togheter.
DSAB 1 is alrready connected BLue to Blue and Green to Green.
Now concerning the garmin Blue data out may i have to connect it on
pin 19 only on the EMS or on pi 19 on the EMS and on the pin 22 on the EFIS ?
I want to have the GPS information on the EFIS HSI and fuel economy display on the EMS.
What is the correct wiring?

Thank you for you help,

Francis.

Connect it to the EFIS. I don't know what information the EMS could really use from the GPS. The DSAB connection will allow you to "repeat" EFIS info on the EMS.

Hi PhantomPholly,

The page 4-4 of the EMS installation guide say that if you own an EMS and an EFIS, connect the EMS to the AUX SERIAL RECEIVE, that is pin 19.
The manual say: With either a GPS connected, you are able to display an HSI on either product; with a GPS connected, you are able to display EMS fuel economy displays.

My question was: do I have to connect both unit to the GPS, or only to the EMS who will, I suppose transfert the GPS information to the EFIS via the DSAB.

The purpose of this question is to reduce the wiring complication and source of failure.

Francis.

Sorry, I have a D180 so wasn't aware that the EMS only unit had any use for the GPS.  Looking in the manual I now see two possible benefits - some units have fuel data, and if you have OAT you can get true airspeed.

Answer to your question - you do not need to connect them both.

Just curious, though - why would you connect it to the EMS rather than the EFIS?  Is it simply more convenient due to location?  Or are you hooking up different units to each Dynon unit (VOR/ILS to one and GPS to the other)?

If the DSAB wires or EMS unit fails it seems to me that you would lose benefit from the GPS, and thus you introduce two possible points of failure (DSAB; EMS) that could prevent displaying GPS course information on the EFIS.

You're both right. Technically, it can go to either box. The manual does specify the EMS, and there's a dedicated wire for this purpose on that box, so go ahead and connect it there. Once you have DSAB set up, the GPS data will be broadcast throughout the whole system. You should NOT connect it to both the EFIS and EMS individually though.

Are Pins 19 & 12 on the DB37 connector the same internallly in the EMS120? I already have a DB9 connector made up from my GPS with the RS232 out and a ground that match the EMS120's DB9 grnd and RS232 receive. Can I just plug them together or do I need to make another DB9 connector using the w/b wire from pin 19?

Thanks

They're not the same serial port, so you do need to use the pinout described in in the GPS/NAV serial port connection section. Strictly speaking, you don't need a 9 pin connector - you can simply connect your devices TX line directly to that free serial RX wire on the Dynon harness. Having the ability to disconnect it easily can be useful too though, so we wouldn't discourage it either.
