Connecting D100 OAT to EDC-10A - parts supplied?

Hey all - I am about to order my OAT probe and noticed that you need to rewire the EDC-10A plug to make it fit.... it's a shame the install manual for the EDC-10A doesn't mention that possibility up front, as I already installed it in a hard to reach place!! I pre-read the D100 EFIS manual before installing but never realised there was also a D100 OAT probe manual as well. This is going to be a fun job to rewire in a tight spot. But anyway, my question is this:

I see the Tools and Material required for installing the D100 OAT probe includes two extra sub-D pins, and crimping tool. Are these pins included with the OAT probe package I'll buy (from Spruce), or do I need to source my own from somewhere? We don't have Radioshack over here so you need not offer P/N's.

Thanks

They include the pins crimped onto the wires, so that you can drop them into the D9 at the EDC.

Ok - sorry - maybe I am reading some old instructions??
The ones I read (just Googled for an install manual for D100 OAT probe) said I had to cut off the pin from the common earth wire on the D100 harness, and connect the OAT wires onto that same pin and re-crimp.

Checking the date - that was from 2005.... oops.  Have Dynon since rewired the internals with a crossover, so that I can simply plug into another pin hole?

Sincere apologies if I've asked a dud question.

First - up to date documentation is always available on our site (http://docs.dynonavionics.com is the deep link). Next, yes, things have changed since 2005. Turns out there was another ground pin on the EDC-D10A on all but some early ones. So, now, you you can simply drop a pin into pin 8 for the ground, not a splice into pin 1 like it used to be.

Thank goodness for that. Sorry for your trouble with my questions, and thank you for the help. :-[

Ps. the only install manual on your website that I can find for the OAT probe is still from 2005 and discusses splicing.  No manual was supplied when I purchased.

The latest install manual is Rev H August 2010 Appendix B page 7-7 refers to OAT - you need to read the index at least before comment ;)

I have read ALL the relevant manuals back to back several times over the last 6 months. I promise you! Clearly there is a lot to remember if it's hidden in the EFIS one and I've missed it at least twice.

Ok - found it. Thanks for the guidance.

My last question for this one is, does running the OAT probe wire close to the EDC-D10A create the risk of electromagnetic interference? The wire seems to be completely non-ferrous, but I don't know how much current it will carry, whether there be enough to generate an EMF.

I am adding the OAT to the remote compass. The existing part that holds the incoming wires together and screws into the female DB 9 connector is too small to hold all 9 wires. What part do I order to get one large enough to hold all nine wires and screws into the EDC 10A female DB 9 connector ?
Thanks

Not sure what the issue is here - as it stands the EDC has 4 wires & the OAT adds another 3, they all can be accommodated within the 9pin dsub connector.

If you're referring to the small clamp that fits around the wires just before the wires exit the connector, that's there for strain relief and can be omitted as long as you insure that no strain will be applied to the wires and cause stress to the junction between the pin and the wire.

As Jake J points out, the only cables supplied by Dynon in its EFIS harness are 4 for the communication cable and 3 for the OAT, for a total of 7 22 AWG wires.

New question on this. I've checked the download page for, what I thought, was the latest on the OAT installation, revised August 30, 2005. It talks about colored wires I don't have. I have two black and whites......?

Those 2 white/black striped wires do not go to the EDC, just into the EMS which also feeds the OAT via the dsab wiring to an EFIS ;)
You will need to buy the 3 wire probe if you don't have an EMS, Dynon may have a different solution though.

Got it, thanks!
Found the pages describing the wiring.
Now to figure out the DSAB issue. I ran the two wires but they don't seem to se each other....
Thanks again!!

After you connect the DSAB wires you need to do the DSAB detection/configuration routine from the EFIS so that they see each other. Have you done that?
