Contact #1 for AOA/Pitot status on EMS-D10

I'm installing a Dynon heater AOA/Pitot. In the AOA/Pitot installation notes it says I can use one of the contact inputs to display the heater status. The EMS-D10 instructions from 10/19/2005 say the contacts aren't supported but will be in the future. The latest D10 instructions (page 5-19) say...

"Note that while contacts are shown below the HS34 INPUTS section, they are not available until you purchase and connect an HS34 expansion module."

Is this really saying I can't use the contact input for heater status unless I buy an HS34 as well? It seems unlikely. I was hoping to connect the white wire from the heater controller straight to EMS-D10 pin #9.

Page 5-19 says:

Note that while contacts are shown below the HS34 INPUTS section, they are not available until you purchase and connect an HS34 expansion module. Ensure you are configuring in either of the two EMS CONTACT menus.

Every EMS has two contact inputs. You can run the Pitot heater wire right into one of them.
