Hi,

I have an Avmap EKP-IV that I wish to connect to a D180- that has the HS34 Expansion Module fitted, can anyone tell me the correct data inputs to use for the gps?

I have tried several, however, I just get a message at the top of the D180 display that says in effect, that the GPS is not connected - or a message similar to this - I forgot it's exact wording`

Cheers

Graham.

Graham,
Are you getting a message "waiting for GPS fix" or "remote compass not detected"?

These are the only two messages I can think of that show up at the top of the D180, and they mean totally different things.

Not sure "Hi!" is one of the error messages we can display ;)

Hi Dynon Support,

Sorry, some problem in getting "reply" to work at all? Have shut down and trying to send below reply again.

Yes, "Waiting for GPS Fix" was the actual shown message, my apologies. I had written it down of course, but as usual it went missing.

I did note that someone had written on your website for the same model Avmap, their Avmap GPS settings to enable use with the Dynon D180. I tried adjusting our Avmap to the recommended settings without any success to the above shown "Waiting for GPS Fix" display.

Cheers

"Waiting for GPS Fix" means that we are getting the signal from the AvMap, but you have no signal lock. Does your GPS have clear view of the sky and is it showing a lock on the AvMap itself.

Yes,

The Avmap has no problem in this area, it displays the correct Airports and track etc.. Full set of satellites locked in..?

In that case, you might check that you have the output set to NMEA (if it's configurable), that you're running the latest firmware available for your GPS, and that you have the right NMEA sentences being outputted (again, if that's configurable). See http://wiki.dynonavionics.com/GPS_Serial_Compatibility_and_Configuration_Settings for a bit more information about what we're expecting out of the unit.

And actually, on further inspection, it appears that with an HS34, even if GPS input isn't being received, that you'll see the message you're seeing. So you might check that the serial input is getting into the HS34 at all, and also whether the correct HS34 serial port under the HSI setup menu is set to receive NMEA data.
