Dynon,

I have read the product descriptions for the Skyview, and also reviewed the postings.  I apologize if the below have been answered, and I missed them.

For my purposes, I am currently undergoing IFR training and I am learning more and more about the capabilities of my Dynon panel.

I want/need, a larger moving map (I currently have a GNS-430 for IFR certification, and a Garmin 496 for WX, map, and all around back up GPS).  I am trying to decide if a Garmin 696, in the panel, will satisfy my “requirements.”  (Along with my D-10A, D-10, HS34, AP74, AP servos).

Can you clarify a couple of things?

From the Skyview description - “A subsequent product launch (date unknown) will include our moving map software option, autopilot, and ARINC 429 converter module. And of course, we will be releasing many other SkyView modules and software features that continue to build on this powerful platform for years to come (e.g., advanced autopilot, comm radio, intercom, transponder, traffic, weather, etc.). The Sky's the limit!

Does this mean, on 1 Dec there will be no autopilot capabilities (I understand that, in future releases, there will be advanced autopilot features)?

The HS34, and AP74 will not be necessary.  However, the HS34 functions (ARINC converter) will also come at a later date.

Is the moving map software “option,” an additional cost?

I do like the idea of cleaning up my panel, and cutting down on the engine wiring from my firewall to the cockpit (I have a Velocity).  I also will have backup instruments on the co-pilot side.

Have you worked with Approach Stacks Systems for them to produce a cable for their system (makes installation incredibly easy!!)?

Clearly, the cost will be a major factor in the decision making process.

I am a big fan.  Tim

Tim,

That is true, we will probably not have a working AP on Dec 1st. We expect to shortly after that. It will use the same servos we have today, so it will just be a software update to the screens. At first release it will be the same features as the current AP74. Advanced stuff will come later.

We will most likely charge a small amount for the moving map. Look down terrain will always be there at no charge, but airport/airspace databases will probably incur a one time charge with free updates after that.

We're always trying to make our stuff easy to install. For example, all the modules (like the AHRS and EMS) connect to the screens with point to point cables that we will sell in various lengths or you can make yourself. As for connections to the back of the screens, I guess there can be a few connections there if you want a really loaded up system.

I realize that the future product will have WX.

Will there be a separate box/interface costing extra? (GDL is very expensive).

I have a Garmin 496 with Wx, and it is great.  I would like to just attached the Wx antenna and get the same type of product for the same price.  Is this the future concept?  Tim

Why pay for an XM subscription? ADS-B will have all of that and be free. All you will need is an ADS-B transponder or separate receiver.

We will need to receive WX from some external hardware, so yes, there will be an extra expense to get that. We don't know exactly what methods we will support at that point, so I can't tell you how much those modules will be.

Nobody can use the Garmin XM antennas besides them, so we'll need to come up with something else. As was mentioned, ADS-B will probably be one option.
