D-10A Firmware Update Problem

I currently have firmware version 5.2.0 on my D-10A EFIS. I was attempting to update to 5.4.0.

I installed the driver for my USB to Serial Port adapter. And got my laptop to recognize that.

Next I plugged it into the serial port for the EFIS and immediately the EFIS came up with a page that said something along the lines of "If the update fails call Dynon, do not power off"

I go to the install program on my laptop and tell it to give me the current firmware version just as a test to make sure my laptop and the EFIS are talking to each other. This fails, says it does not see an EFIS for some reason.

So the EFIS saw the connection to the laptop, but the laptop did not see the connection to the EFIS.

I try to call Dynon, but I have missed their business hours.

I eventually left the EFIS in the hangar and it is running on the internal battery currently.

Is there anything I can do to get this back up and running? Will this require removing the EFIS and shipping it to Dynon?

I was attempting to upgrade because when I power up the EFIS I get a solid white screen most of the time. Most of the time the unit will finally give my the correct display, sometimes the display never comes up.

VERY frustrated right now, I followed all the directions to a "T" and still had problems.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Something weird is up, no way it should go to the Yellow loading screen until you run our support program. Just plugging it in to the PC shouldn't make that happen.

In any case, no harm has been done to the EFIS at this point. Just power it off and it will be fine. Easier said than done- with a battery you are kind of stuck and the easiest thing to do is let the battery die.

If you let the battery die, it will boot up the next time you give it power. But updating to 5.4 won't fix the white screen, as there is nothing new in the code that has anything to do with the way it boots.

Give us a call on monday and we can help more.

Sounds good, I will call Monday.

But yeah as soon as I plugged in the EFIS it went to the yellow screen. And it stayed there.

I did let the EFIS sit overnight with the battery running so I'm sure it died overnight. I'll go up there today and go up for a flight and get it all charged up again and see what the EFIS is doing.

Thanks for the reply!

Turned out we had the wrong driver for the USB/Serial adapter. I have a 64 bit OS on my laptop, I had the 32 bit driver loaded.

Got the update installed this afternoon, going up for a flight in a bit to ops check everything.

If I continue to have problems with the EFIS booting properly I will call Dynon. I want to see if this software update fixed my problems first.

I wanted to post this incase anyone else has the same problem, they can see what helped me out.
