When power is applied to my D-180, it does not power up. Pressing button #1 does cause it to power up, however voltage displays "0". Turning the D-180 off with button #1 results in normal shut down. When power is applied again normally, the D-180 powers up normally. This started about two monts ago and occurs when it has set overnight or longer.

Other observations:
1) D-180 displays about 1 volt less than buss voltage. (I contacted you about this October, 2011 and no resolution was determined).
2) Internal battery voltage displays 15.7
3) Voltage at pin #1 on the 25 pin connector is confirmed battery buss voltage. (12.7 volts/ D-180 displayed 12.5 to 11.8 volts)
4) While monitoring voltage on the D-180 when flying, it will drift from about 13.7 to 12.2 volts. Battery buss voltage stays constant at about 14.3 volts by an independent digital volt meter. Three separate volt meters have been used to monitor the battery buss voltage.
5) This D-180 was returned previously for repair.
6) This D-180 has about 140 flight hours on it.
7) The "keep alive" (pin 2 on the 25 pin connector) is not connected.
8) Software was updated during previous repair.

I have something a bit similar. My D100 sometimes takes 15 to 20 minutes after power up to start itself. It cycles between the Dynon logo and blank screen at about three second intervals. Occasionally it will start up in about five minutes but usually it takes longer. I have disconnected the Keep Alive wire. Any ideas?

dburdette: missed your first post. If you've already spoken with tech support, ignore this. If you haven't: It does sound like your unit has something wrong with it internally. As for the "wrong" voltage reading: remember that voltage drops across wires, and the voltage at your EFIS/EMS is likely different than other places. So that's normal.

Ham: What's the ambient temperature when this happens?

OAT usually between 10 and 20°C. I seldom fly with temp below 5° and we have not had a day above 25° this summer. I don't think the problem is temp related.

We probably ought to have a look at your unit then Ham. Give our support a ring at 425-402-0433 or an email at support at dynonavionics dot com

I have just found a solution to my D100 problem, although it is probably not completely correct: if I keep aircraft power off the unit and press Button 1 it starts immediately. Then I switch it on to a/c power. It still does not like starting by just having power applied to it, but I don't mind now that I can make it start by the above method.

That's a workaround to a real problem, but you should be able to flick master on and have the unit power up. You mentioned you've disconnected keepalive. Do you have the internal battery installed? What software version are you running (if not the latest, update first for sure. We've fixed various power issues over the years.)
