D10 Intermittent Will Not Boot

Prior to first flights in my RV6, I uploaded v. 1.13 without difficulty and now have just over 30 hours on the product S/N 1338.  At about 20 hours in, the unit would not boot and I would see the blue screen with the Dynon logo for less than a second followed by a black screen for less than a second, and it would cycle like this for 5 or 10 minutes on average.  This has happened at least a dozen separate times, and about half the time the screen would come up after a while and run normally.  Once when the screen came up it was more black and white with an "altitude indeterminate" warning.  It cleared after about two minutes.

These happen even without the engine running and also when run with the internal battery, so I don't think it's a vibration/connector issue.  All my electrics are B&C quality, using B&C tools.  I have done a few things to try and solve this.  I added an avionics switch for the unit so it doesn't have to endure any more engine starts while on.  I also reloaded v. 1.13.  It worked for about four or five cycles (flights) but just got another event yesterday.

I am taking the unit out and want to know what more I can do to clear this up.  I plan to remove and reinstall the internal battery, but is there any kind of reset otherwise?  Or should I send it in to you?  The only thing I have not done yet is to calibrate the remote compass module, which is hooked up.  But I don't think that would cause this......

Removing and reinstalling the internal battery probably will not solve the problems you are having but it doesn't hurt to try. It does sound like your unit may have to come in for repair. If you call us at 425-402-0433 we'll be able to get a better sense of what is going on and give you the right information so that you can send your EFIS in if it comes to that.

I removed the battery for overnight and reinstalled it this morning. I pushed the left button (momentary) to turn the unit on and when the button was pushed I saw the blue screen with the Dynon logo. When I released the button the screen went black. This happened twice. The third time it worked and the unit came up normally. There is something going on, and I want to ship it to you. I will call you today.

I did notice the screws holding the battery cover showed light rust. I live 5 miles from the Delaware Bay (salt water) - I don't know if this will help in your investigation. The connector pins look fine though....

An altimeter that is of by 3000 feet is broken. That unit will need to return here if you are sure that your static line isn't blocked or full of water, and that you are in the right units of altitude.

Please give us a call at 425-402-0433 if you need to return the unit.
