I've finally gotten around to installing my D10 and have some questions:

1. What is the use of the second "master power" connection at pin 14. Does it need to be connected to the same fused power as Pin 1? It seems to work without it being hooked up.

2. The hood of the D25 connector will not fit under the pitot-static-AOA connections of the D10..??? I have the plastic chrome one. Is there a smaller, less bulky one I can use?

3. Is it permissible to shorten the OAT wires to suit the installation?

4. I'm not using the AOA. Should the red plastic plug be left in or removed?

4. What is "External backup power"? I have the internal battery...should be enough..right??

1) It is redundant. You can use either pin 1 or 14.

2) That does sound bulky. The hoods I've seen come close to but do not interfere with the pitot/static/AOA connections. I don't know of any specific one you can use, but there are lots of slight variants out there. Alternatively, you can simply not use a hood. Assuming that you don't have the cables really taught, the machined pins that the wires should be crimped onto should seat solidly into the d-sub connector.

3) You can shorten but not elongate the EFIS-D10 OAT probe. (This is a "type 1 probe" for EFIS-D10A owners - the one without the black band. The type 2 probe can be shortened or elongated.)

4) You can leave it capped

5) It's there for people that have separate, rendundant power sources and want to hook them both up. You are right though - with the internal battery you'll be fine and don't need to worry about it since the battery itself provides redundancy.
