Can I connect a wire from my garmin 400W unit to my HS34 that will show DME (to whatever waypoint is in my 400W) on my D100? If yes, what wire from the 400W?

The short answer is no, but SkyView will show you a distance on the HSI info area anyway.

The 400W doesn't have a DME receiver, nor an output for it. When connected to SkyView, it WILL, however, show you the GPS distance to a waypoint in the HSI info area when your 400W is your HSI's source. The FAA is OK when certified GPS's distance to navigation aids are used in lieu of an actual DME. Technically, we're computing that GPS distance that is shown in our HSI info area, so technically it's perhaps not a total replacement for the actual number that you can look over and see on your 400W's screen. But they'll match.
