D1000 knob functionality

On my IFR flight today, the left knob was intermittent on responding to the directional command. when attempting to change from the CRS bug to the BARO bug, pushing up/down/left/right would randomly not respond. I'd wait a while to get back on my heading and altitude (no autopilot yet), then try again. Sometimes it took up to 4 attempts (of jiggling it all over) to get the bug menu to pull up. It wouldn't have been as big of a deal if the MAP knob wasn't dedicated to the moving map, then I could have used that knob. Is this a known issue? I've never had this problem before, in the 50+ hrs I've been flying the skyview system...

If the knob has been bent, then you can see this. Does it seem to be straight while it's rotated?

Also, try pulling the knob out just a touch. Does that change things? If not, then it might be an actual problem with the hardware.

Of course, we can take a look at your display to definitively figure out what's going on.

The knob definitely isn't bent or otherwise damaged. I had tried pulling the knob slightly in flight, but the knob came off the shaft, so I quit that... I'll check again today to see if I can duplicate the issue.

The knob is designed to come off when pulled - they're intentionally not glued in. So that's not a problem. But try this - press the knob on pretty firmly, then see if that causes the problem to be reproducible. If so, there might be something going on with the knob, and sending you a different one may improve things.

I have the same problem with one knob on my 7" SV display. The problem was fixed by pulling the knob out by something less than 1/16". When I investigated why the control would not function in two directions, but OK in the opposite directions, I found that the control appeared to be not quite centered in the front panel recess, causing the knob to be restricted in the top and right directions. The offset was measured at just over .01", compared to the other control. Swapping the knobs over makes no difference.

Hmm, couldn't reproduce the problem today. Although I did realize that swapping which side the map was displayed would have allowed me to use the other knob.
The knob isn't damaged, and seems like it functions properly with the snap feel/sound, and subsequent reaction from the menu. Perhaps a temperature related thing, as I had been flying for about 40 minutes at the time of the issue on Sunday. Guess I'll just keep an eye on it...

Since the end of July, I've been flying with the map on the left side of the screen and this knob issue has only happened one other time.  Interestingly enough, both times the knob quit responding in flight, I had just departed KSBA via the KWANG5.FIM departure and was somewhere around 10 miles inbound from the FIM VOR.  I can't see how spacial position would have an effect on the knobs functionality, but there's the data.  Since starting this airplane project, I have quit believing in coincidence.

Also noticed on recent flights is a CRS bug that will fluctuate by 1 or 2 degrees with no user input, even with the knob set to BARO.  Still need to do further observations on that one.
