D10A Comm Port problem

My EFIS D10A functions just fine. However when I attempt to communicate with the unit using my laptop, I get an "Upload Aborted" message stating error connecting to instrument: "Can't find instrument on any serial port. Please close any programs which may be using a comm or serial port"
I have tried three different laptop computers. Two of the computers do not have a serial port connector so I used a USB to Serial adapter. The Radio Shack adapter driver has been installed and it works when I download graphic engine data from my JPI 700 instrument, so I believe the USB to serial adapter cable is OK. The third laptop computer that I tried has a serial port which I connected direcdtly to the D10A serial cable. The same error message appeared. I have no other devices connected or running when I try to connect to the D10A. Would appreciate any ideas from anyone who has experienced this problem or any other advice you may offer. Thanks Gobyrd1.

Having that many computers / USB-serial converts not work probably implies that you likely have a problem with the wiring to the 9 pin connector (check continuity from the 25 pin end to the 9 pin end with a multimeter) or that there is something wrong with the unit.

If you check the former and find everything to be OK with the wiring, give us a call at 425-402-0553 to get an RMA so we can have a look at the EFIS.

As you suggested, the port problem was actually a wiring problem. I purchaed a pre-fababricated wiring harness so I assumed it was wired correctly. The Gulf Coast Schematic that came with the harness showed the PC serial cable was wired correctly and consistant with the pin outs in their drawing. The problem is that their schematic is incorrect and differs from Dynon's schematic contained in the Dynon Installation Manual. When I rewired the harness to agree with Dynon's schematic the PC Serial cable worked fine and my Laptop picked up the D10A immediately. I will call Pacific Coast Avionics and make them aware that their schematic is incorrect. Thanks for your advice. Gobyrd1
