I would find it beneficial to replace the heading tape with a full circle compass rose on my D10A. Especially if the current heading could be displayed in a box at the top of the circle and with the heading bug also displayed on the circle.

Thanks,
Ben

We already have this, a full DG with an HSI. If you have firmware from the last 18 months or so, you should have this option.

But I assume you mean a full compass rose on top of the attitude indicator.

We're totally thrilled that our customers have ideas to make our products better, and we do listen to all of them. In this case, we have actually looked at doing this, many years ago, and even have some code to do it. The problem with it is that it is a human factors disaster. Things all over the screen, rotating in one direction while the horizon goes the other way. The roll scale ends up inside this other circle and you have pointers everywhere. On top of that, the screen just ends up totally cluttered.

It just really isn't a safe thing to do. If you look at all the certified units on the planet, none of them do this, and there's a good reason for it. We take the usability of our products very seriously, and this type of display just doesn't mesh well with usability.

Thank you for the reply.

Yes, I was refering to a compass rose overlaid on the attitude indicator to replace the heading tape.

Your point about screen clutter is well taken. I just don't have the panel space to add another D10A for a dedicated HSI, though.

Personally, I would like to have the option to eliminate the roll scale, add the compass rose, and move the purple "standard-rate-turn-bar" to the top of the screen. Airspeed, Altitude and Heading would be in their discrete digital boxes and the VSI would be in its same vertical bar format.

If it's not "in the cards", I understand.

Secondly; in keeping with the declutter theme:

I configure my D10A screen to eliminate the Airspeed and Altitude tapes. I find that the digital readings are easy and intuitive without them and the screen is "cleaner". I do miss the V speed color coding on the airspeed, though. Is it possible to change the color of the airspeed box or the outline color or text color or something to correspond to the V speed ranges when the tape is not displayed?

Thanks again,
Ben
