D10a installation in RV6A

I am considering installing a D10A in my currently flying RV6A. The installation documentation suggests that I need a space of nearly 10 inches depth between the Panel and sub-panel. 3 inches being needed for the DB25 connector and 6.8 inches for the unit. The RV6A seems to have about 8.9 inches available between the rear of the panel and the front of the sub-panel.
I would be very grateful if someone who has a D10a could confirm how much depth is required including the DB25.
Thanks

Jeremy,

You didn't state whether you have a tip-up or slider canopy, but in either case you will need to cut a hole in the sub-panel for the D-10A. You will not compromise the structural integrity of the sub-panel by adding the cutout.

The D-10A will be a valued addition to your panel. :)

Thank you very much for your reply. My RV6a is a slider. It will be difficult to cut a hole in the sub panel. Would it be possible to remove the case from the DB25? This would shorten it considerably and I think it would fit.
Cheers
Jeremy

People have done that, but you give up the strain relief that the connector shell provides. Also, there are right angle 25 pin adapters connectors out there that you can find as well.

Dont forget there is plumbing on the back of the unit as well. Right angle connectors are difficult because of the close spacing.

I have installed the D10A in my RV6A, sliding canopy, and did not need to have a hole in the subpanel. I used right angle fittings. There is still a very small gap between the D10A and the subpanel where the wire bundle makes a 90 deg. turn downwards.
